EDELWEISS (E.S. 40)

(Hybrid: contains Vitis Riparia, Vitis Labrusca)

 

Non hardy variety in Quebec* (requires winter protection)

 

GREEN/GOLDEN-WHITE SEEDED TABLE GRAPE

 

  • Medium sized round very juicy berries
  • Slipskin on soft and melting flesh
  • Floral taste, fruity-labrusca (Must be harvested early. when fully ripes its labrusca flavor becomes very strong)
  • it is recommended to harvest as soon as the fruits ripen before its foxy labrusca flavor becomes too predominant)
  • Medium-sized loose to compact conical clusters
  • Hardy up to zone 5; it is generally hardy up to temperatures of -26 °C (It seems that he has already survived without any protection at temperatures below -30 °C and to fruit during the following in summer)
  • Vigorous and productive vine
  • Ripens mid-September
  • Very resistant to most vine diseases
  • Ideal to consume fresh, make juice or jelly. Although it was originally hybridized as a table grape, it can be used to make a light and floral wine
  • Self-fertile grape variety

Anecdote:

 

Edelweiss is one of the parents of Swenson White, another variety offered by Vignes Chez Soi; E. Swenson used the Edelweiss flower to make the cross that gave birth to the Swenson White hybrid grape variety.

 

WARNING! This grape variety is not hardyin regions which hardiness zone is above 5 (ex: 4, 3 etc…). Therefore it is imperative to protect the vine in winter (Ex: Cover with geotextile …)

 

DELIVERIES 2020: as of Monday, May 25th, 2020, plants will be sent by carrier (Canada Post) every Monday, reception is 2-3 business days later For Quebec, 4-5 business days later for the rest of Canada
