KAY GRAY (E.S. 1-63)

  • Medium to large, juicy, slightly crispy and tender berries.
  • Sweet and fruity Labrusca flavor (from a rather ordinary labrusca to a pleasant fruity flavor, depending on the climate of the region where it is grown)
  • White to golden slipskin berries
  • Small compact cylindrical and uniform clusters
  • Vine is very resistant to cold (-35 ┬░ Celsius) without any protection
  • Rustic to zone 4b
  • Vine vigorous
  • Almost immune to diseases
  • Very easy to grow
  • Ideal to eat fresh or to make juice
  • Can also be used to make a wine with floral notes
  • Self-fertile grape variety

Cross: E.S. 217 (flower) X free pollen (pollen) probably Onaka pollen an old cultivar from South Dakota that was growing next to the E.S. 217

The Kay Gray is named after the wife of Elmer Swenson’s friend Dick Gray (former director of the Minnesota Freshwater Institute of Biology).
