RED SEEDLESS** TABLE GRAPE

  • Medium and spherical berries with firm pulp and non-slipskin
  • Sweet and fruity flavor
  • Medium to large conical clusters well filled
  • The very high quality of the fruit makes it one of the best grapes among the red grapes
  • Ripens mid-season to late
  • Hardiness zone: 5b (-25 ° C)
  • Very resistant to diseases
  • Moderately vigorous
  • Moderately productive
  • Self-fertile grape variety

** Although recognized as a seedless variety, like any seedless variety, seeds might occasionally appear in years when the vine has been “stressed”

ORIGIN:

  • Bred by O.A Bradt and K.H Fisher
  • Cross: Seneca (flower) X New York 45910 (pollen)
  • Cross made in 1965
  • Selected in 1972
  • Released in 1983
  • Origin: Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario (Vineland Station), Canada.

Anecdote:

According to the University of Minnesota, the characteristic that separates the “Vanessa” from other seedless grape varieties is its crisp texture

Bruce Reisch, a professor in the Department of Horticultural Sciences at Cornell University in New York (USA), who specializes in viticulture, said fruit quality makes it one of the best table grapes among the seedless red grape varieties.

*WARNING! This grape variety is not hardy in regions which hardiness zone is above 5 (ex: 4, 3 etc…). Therefore it is imperative to protect the vine in winter (Ex: Cover with geotextile …)
