VENUS (Arkansas 1196, Venus Seedless)

(Interspecific hybrid: includes Vitis Labrusca, Vitis Vinifera)

Not hardy in Quebec* (requires winter protection)

BLUE SEEDLESS TABLE GRAPE **

  • Baies bleues à bleu-foncé, de taille moyenne à grosses (exceptionnellement grosses pour un raisin sans pépin) et sans pépin
  • Labrusca and Muscat flavored berries, sweet and foxy
  • Berries with non adherent skin (slipskin) that can sometimes be thick
  • Medium to large, compact clusters
  • Hardy to zone 6b, up to approximately -20 °C (-4°F)
  • Maturité: semi-tardif, fin septembre début octobre en zone 4b. Nécessite environ 1150 DJC 10°C (Degrés-Jours de Croissance base 10°C) –ou 2070 DJC base 50°F- to mature fruit
  • Vigorous vine
  • Productive vine
  • Ideal for fresh eating, making juice, or jelly or jam
  • Although considered a "seedless" variety, seeds may appear some years. They are usually soft and can be eaten with the berry, but sometimes they can be hard and noticeable
  • Self-pollinating

** PLEASE NOTE: Although considered a «seedless» variety, seeds might occasionally appear some years, when the vine has been “stressed”.

As stated by Cornell University: «The degree of seedlessness varies greatly among seedless grape varieties. Most seedless grapes have vestigial seed traces that range in size from very small to large and noticeable. Seed traces in berries of the same variety may vary greatly in size and in the hardness of their seed coats. Climate is also known to affect seed trace size. Occasionally the seed traces in some seedless grapes are large enough to be bothersome to consumers.»

*WARNING! This grape variety is semi-rustique au Québec. Winter protection is required in areas which hardiness zone is less than 6b (Ex: 6b, 6a, 5b, 5a, 4b, 4a, 3b etc… Cover with geotextile…)

No guarantee offered on cultivars that are not hardy in Quebec.
