Kandiyohi

In years when the seasons will offer a long ripening and growing season, the berries can become VERY BIG!

Kandiyohi is named after a county in the state of Minnesota in the United States. A “cold climate” region adjoining the region of origin of Elmer Swenson (Wisconsin), father of Kandiyohi, who, in collaboration with the University of Minnesota, created several grape varieties adapted to “cold climate” regions.

Kandiyohi is a Native American name from the Dakota language, a dialect spoken by the tribes bearing the same name, Dakota, which are part of the larger Sioux nation.

In Dakota Kandiyohi means:

"Where the 'Buffalo Fish' comes from" (Kandhi = Buffalo fish, oh hi’ yu or hiyu = come through, cross)

Le Buffalo Fish ou Ictiobus est un poisson que l’on trouve aux États-Unis, au Canada, mais aussi au Mexique et au Guatemala.
