Origine:

  • Bred by Dr. Georg Scheu in Germany
  • Cross: Gewürztraminer X Madeleine Angevine (confirmed in 2012 by the publication of the DNA analysis). This version, however, was denied by Dr. Scheu’s own son, Heinz Scheu, who allegedly stated in a book that the Siegerrebe was in fact the result of a spontaneous (natural) cross of Madeleine Angevine with the pollen of another species.)
  • Cross made in 1929
  • Patented and released in 1958
  • Origin: Alzey, Rheinhessen, Germany

Siegerrebe

«Siegerrebe» literally translates as “the winning vine” or "the champion vine" in English !

It is indeed from our point of view a winning vine that gives an incredible tasting grape. Definitely one of our favourites! But beware of its hardiness! It must be protected during each winter in Quebec.

En Allemagne, en 2006, on comptait 110 hectares de ce cépage. Après le début du nouveau millénaire, la culture du Siegerrebe a décliné en Allemagne et le cépage est désormais courant en Angleterre et au Canada.

This vine variety is particularly grown in Germany with some plantations in Washington State, England, North Okanagan in British Columbia and Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia.
